The UFO dripper is a manual pour-over brewer designed to make great coffee approachable and consistent. With its distinctive shape and airflow-focused design, it offers a smooth brewing experience while still giving you control over the process. If you’re new to the UFO dripper or manual brewing in general, this guide will walk you through everything you need to get started.
Step 1: Prepare Hot Water
Prepare hot boiling water, the best temperature is around 93-95°C, if not you may try to reduce the temperature of the boiling water by leaving it expose to air around 30-60secs.
Step 2: Bloom the Coffee
Start your timer and slowly pour about 30–40g of hot water over the coffee, just enough to fully saturate the grounds.
Let it bloom for 25–30 seconds. This allows trapped gases to escape and prepares the coffee for a more balanced extraction.
Step 3: Begin the Main Pour
After blooming, continue pouring in slow, controlled circles, starting from the center and moving outward. Avoid pouring directly onto the filter walls.
Pour steadily until you reach a total brew weight of 160-220g, depending on your preferred strength. The UFO dripper’s design helps regulate airflow, making the process forgiving and smooth.
You may break it down into different stage like the video shown above, or experiment with other technique. Just have fun!
Step 4: Let It Draw Down
Once pouring is complete, allow the coffee to finish dripping through naturally. Total brew time typically ranges between 2:30 to 3:30 minutes.
Step 5: Enjoy the Cup
Remove the dripper, give the coffee a gentle swirl, and enjoy. The UFO dripper is known for producing a clean, balanced cup with good clarity, making it ideal for appreciating subtle flavours.
A Brewing Experience Worth Slowing Down For
Using the UFO dripper is more than just making coffee—it’s about engaging with the process. Its thoughtful design supports consistency while leaving room for exploration, making it a great choice for daily rituals and weekend brews alike.
Take your time, enjoy the process, and let each cup be a moment of pause.
